My research aims to understand the mechanisms of sex determination in palms and their evolution. To address these questions, I use comparative genomic and epigenomic approaches, studying hermaphroditic, monoecious, and dioecious species. Given the major economic importance of palms in countries of the Global South, this work addresses practical challenges such as controlling sex ratios and improving the selection of female individuals. These advances have direct impacts on fruit and seed production, agricultural sustainability, and food security.
